Being “first” in a selected area or occupation could be each exhilarating and daunting. Panelists included Alicia Wilson, senior vice president of Impact Investments and senior legal counsel, Sagamore Development; Donna Cichani, design strategy lead, KPMG, Experience Design and Engineering; Sharon Ritchey, head of change, T. Row e Price; Sharonne Bonardi, deputy comptroller, State of Maryland; and Tracey Ford, president, Maryvale Prep. The event was moderated by Jill Green, associate dean for student improvement at the Carey Business School. In fact, we can make the urgent and important fill our time at work. It is easy to do. Usually, we weren’t hired to fight fires. We were hired to perform something different from fighting fires. Fighting fires is a fact of life. But that should not prevent us from carrying out our goals. Here’s the Cube Rule: Do something proactive every day. Proactive actions, by definition, get you out of firefighting. Being proactive gets you to planning your work. Proactive gets you to goals. This doesn’t mean you have to solve the world’s problems every day. It does mean that every day you do some task or set of tasks to carry out your goals.
